Rock Climbing
The Monterey Peninsula offers some challenging
climbs for both experienced and beginning climbers. Novices and
intermediate climbers can test their skills on the south end of
Garrapata
State Beach, six miles south of Carmel on
Highway One. Garrapata has a series of short 15- to 20-foot cliffs
above the sandy beach.
For short courses in rock climbing, or information
about climbing access to the volcanic crags and spires of
Pinnacles
National Monument (on Highway 146, east of
Soledad), call Sanctuary
Rock Gym at 831/899-2595.
