Another attraction in Pacific Grove is the free alternative to the
gorgeous but pricey 17-Mile Drive, which most guidebooks list as a
must-see. Take the four-mile drive along Ocean View Beach in Pacific
Grove, right next to Asilomar
Conference Center. Along the way are
beautiful Victorian homes, a terrific view of the ocean,
tidepools,
and the 1855 Point
Piños Lighthouse.
Other sights in Pacific Grove include the Museum of Natural History,
the American Tin
Cannery, Stanford University's Hopkins
Marine Station (adjacent to the Boat Works, a major oceanic research
institute), and the Old Bath House Restaurant at Lover's Point.
A great driving
tour website concerns John Steinbeck and
his characters in Pacific Grove.
